Opening Reception - "All of the Arts are Sisters" Exhibit - Friday, August 2, 2019, 5-8pm

  • Friday, August 02, 2019
  • 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM
  • Salem Arts Galleries at 211 Bridge Street, Salem, MA

Nietzsche wrote that "all of the arts are sisters."  We invited artists to submit work about or inspired by dance, music, theater, poetry (or any writing), or the visual arts or that incorporates visual elements from them (e.g., words, letters, musical notes, musical instruments) or otherwise explores this theme.

August also includes feature artist presentations by Ellen Garvey and Lisa Pelonzi.

Ellen Garvey's “What’s down there?” delivers a presentation of underwater photographs from warm waters around the world. As a scuba diver and nature enthusiast Garvey takes the opportunity to escape the cold winter weather and travel to a warm location to scuba dive and photograph “what’s down there”. It’s not just fish! Her favorite type of diving is to see strange and tiny creatures – some – such as a pygmy seahorse - no bigger than. At the other end of the spectrum she has been diving with mantas, turtles, and of course sharks.

Locations include the Caribbean, several places in the Pacific, the Maldives, and the Galapagos.

Lisa Pelonzi Presents "The Magical Light of West Beach". For the past four years Lisa has been traveling the beaches of the North Shore and capturing sunrise. One of her favorite places to photograph is the Old Pier at West Beach. She has photographed the pier during sunrise, snowstorms, rain, fog, and with the July 4th fireworks. Join us to see the many moods this beautiful place reveals.
