Artist Bio or Résumé
Gwyn S. Marathas is an award-winning Salem, Massachusetts artist whose work bridges painting, textiles, and storytelling. A graduate of UMass Dartmouth with a BFA in Textile Design/Fiber Art, she creates intuitive acrylic collage paintings and handwoven textiles inspired by folklore, botanical forms, and the beauty of the delightfully odd. Working under her longtime creative practice, Wovenpaint, Marathas layers color, texture, and found imagery into richly tactile compositions that shift between abstraction and representation. Her current series explores peculiar florals and imagined greenhouse specimens, inviting viewers into a world where shadows bloom. Beyond the studio, she is dedicated to arts education, mentoring others through workshops, artist residencies, and community-based creative experiences.
