Holly Aloha Jaynes, Mixed Media Artist

Closing Reception Sunday, June 21, noon-2 PM

New & Newer Work

Salem Arts Association member Holly Aloha Jaynes is exhibiting her newest work during the month of June at the Stetson Gallery, Unitarian Universalist Church of Marblehead.  Holly Aloha Jaynes, traditionally a land & seascape plein air oil painter, decided last summer to challenge herself with a new medium, watercolor.  She had been intimidated by watercolor, thinking it had to be done “quickly, without any mistakes”.  “Through my new endeavor, I found watercolor can be “controlled” or “sloppy”, wet on wet, wet on dry, textured, worked back into and numerous other discoveries.  I have a lot more to learn about this medium, but for now I wanted to share my latest paintings with you”.

As a 3-D collage-found object & assemblage artist, Jaynes is exhibiting collages made from her own painted paper pallette, crackled paper, used dress pattern paper, toilet paper covering paper, image transfers and in one piece, “I have incorporated a small ink sketch I found at a tea temple in the woods”!  Some collages are mono-printed, giving a rich, textured surface.  Using her own stamps over areas of a collage, she adds a light colored gel glaze over the entire piece giving the stamping a “glowing” effect.  Other colored glazes were added over pieces, parts were sanded, layered & using a brayer, smoothed flat.  “I have my favorites when it comes to various “tools” that I used to make abstract marks, texture & design.  When I make a collage I am so intently in the process, I rarely think of the “product”, the finished piece”.

Please feel free to visit Holly Aloha Jaynes at Art Muse Studio, 2 Margin Street, (Salem Post Office), Studio 202a, by appointment or chance; 781-639-7779, & check out her web site at   www.hollyalohajaynes.com
